Park maintenance sessions are held on the second Tuesday of every month between 9:30am and 12:30pm under the necessary supervision and guidance of the Cheltenham Borough Council Community Ranger. You are cordially invited to join the group. It is a way of giving something back to the park that we all love. You do not need to feel obliged to stay for the whole session each time. We have been very happy this year to welcome Lucy Wise as the new Community Ranger and the sessions restarted earlier this year.
Maintenance generally such as lawn mowing, maintenance of lawn edges, flower and shrub planting and tree surgery is undertaken by Cheltenham Borough Council. Depending on the seasons and the current apparent needs, the work undertaken by the volunteers includes keeping areas free from weeds, pruning shrubs, bulb planting and opening vistas where shrub growth has restricted views across the park.
If you would like to take part from time to time, do let us know so that you can be kept informed of future sessions. Participation is not restricted to FOSP members. (Jan 2024)
The Sanctuary Garden, at the east end of the eastern part of the park adjacent to College Road has been beautifully developed and is maintained by LINC, the cancer charity based at Cheltenham General Hospital. The garden, created on the site of the old rose garden, is intended as a place of outdoor repose for patients at the hospital. It is of course, open to everyone.
LINC invite volunteers to help maintain this wonderful garden. Sessions take place at 10am on the last Friday of each month. Just turn up. (Jan 2024)
